Reworked interface specification somewhat:

Now all variables are in a group, spec is

VTYPE <group_name> [DIM=<dim>] [TYPE=<gtype>]
[{
   <name>[,]<name>
   <name>
}]

VTYPE can be CHAR,REAL or INTEGER
DIM can be 1,2 or 3, default 3
TYPE can be SCALAR, GF or ARRAY, default SCALAR

If no block included, a variable with the same name as the group is created.
