Strip spaces from numeric ranges.

Initially we had decided that you could have multiple rnages on one line, so
this change disables that behaviour, 'though we may add it in again with
commas if it is really wanted, which i can certainly see a case for, 'though
the rest of the code didn't actually support multiple ranges per line anyway 8-)

This should fix PR 657.
